IBM JAPAN: SMARTER SELLING ACADEMY
Over the course of eight trips to Tokyo and Yokohama, between 2012 and 2014, Sarah Keough photographed and edited a massive image library for IBM. Through her photographs, Keough documented the day-to-day activities of IBM employees and their clients, as well as life and work in Japan. IBM used the image library in presentations and environmental graphics at its Smarter Selling Academy, a series of workshops designed to energize IBM Japan's sales force.
Before she began shooting, Keough and her team distilled the kinds of work IBM Japan and their clients do into a list of broad terms -- Transportation, Retail, and Communication, for example. Her first two shoots took place on the streets of Tokyo and Yokohama and concentrated on exploring the human side of those concepts. On subsequent trips the focus narrowed and Sarah focused on teams of IBMers, photographing them on the job--in their offices, with their clients, and in their clients' facilities. The result is both a broad and a personal look at the many ways IBM's work intersects with the people of Japan.
